KASU Hosts Groundbreaking Conference on Religion, Ethics and Environmental Crisis

The Department of Christian Religious Studies at Kaduna State University (KASU) successfully held a four-day conference from Tuesday, 3rd to Thursday 5th September 2024, focusing on the theme: Religion, Ethics and Environmental Crisis. The event commenced with a welcome address from the Head of the Department, Dr. John Ishaku, who expressed his gratitude to dignitaries and participants for their support.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, applauded the organizing committee's efforts and emphasized the importance of religious principles in fostering success. He also encouraged other departments within the university to pursue research initiatives and embrace e-learning.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Chentu Dauda Nguvugher, Head of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Jos, stressed humanity's responsibility to nurture, conserve, and preserve nature. He urged attendees to treat environmental concerns with the utmost seriousness.

Prof. Helen Afang Andow, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, echoed this sentiment, stating that environmental stewardship is a collective responsibility. Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration, praised the inclusiveness of the event and encouraged continued efforts to inspire growth across all facets.

The Provost of the College of Humanities, Education, and Law, Prof. Ahmed Kofa Babajo, also commended the Department of CRS for organizing the timely and important conference.

Also, Prof. Dickson Dyaji presented a report on the history of Conferences in the Department of Christian Religious Studies at KASU.

The conference saw the participation of numerous notable figures, including representatives from various religious denominations and academic institutions. Among the attendees were Elder Sunday Oibe (represented by Rev. Dr. James Wuye), Most Reverend Dr. Habila T. Dabo (represented by Rev. Father Ezekiel Danlami Tijjani), former Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, former Council Member of KASU and Proprietress of Panaf Schools, Barnawa, Dame Patricia Danmaida, several professors, staff and students of KASU and religious leaders from across Nigeria.
