The academic event took place at Kaduna State University on Wednesday, 21st August 2024, in Lecture Theater 1, Faculty of Arts. The event featured notable scholars discussing the book "Language and Literary Studies: An Exploration for Scholarly Discourse," edited by Prof. U.N. Butari.
Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Vice-Chancellor of KASU, pointed out the significance of language, highlighting its complexity and value. He proposed establishing a writing center at KASU and stressed the importance of contextual communication and immersion with native speakers for mastering language.
The Vice-Chancellor also suggested that the next scholarly discourse should focus on technology dynamics that explore technology's role and 21st-century ethics. Additionally, he reiterated the introduction of KASU's e-learning platform designed to enhance the undergraduate learning experience in Kaduna State University.
The highlight of the event was the presentation the book "Language and Literary Studies: An Exploration for Scholarly Discourse," edited by Prof. Nahum Butari, by Prof. A. I. Musa, who announced support for the authors and the Department of English and Drama as well as a startup grant for the proposed writing center.
In his remarks, Prof. Audee T. Giwa, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure and encouraged students to maintain exemplary behavior.
Prof. Patrick El-Kanemi Onah, Head of the Department of English and Drama, acknowledged the sacrifices made to make the event successful and emphasized the importance of continuing past efforts to shape the intellectual development of the department.
Prof. Butari Nahum, who edited the volume and discussed Noam Chomsky's Minimalist Program, acknowledged its components—array, operation, and transformation—and the non-linguistic aspects of the program.
Dr. Yusuf Ninzim Shamagana discussed the concept of "Spectatorship to Spect-actorship," advocating for theater to actively engage with the audience, fostering capacity building and conflict resolution.
The event was attended by the Deputy University Librarian Dr. (Mrs.) Hadiza Talatu Mohammed, Prof. Suleiman, Prof. Terhemba Wuam, Prof. Rita Bosan, and other lecturers, staff, and students of KASU.
