KASU Hosts Lecture on Self-Motivation and Institutional Excellence

The Center for Biosecurity, Biosafety, Infectious Disease, and One Health (CEBBIDOH) at Kaduna State University organized a groundbreaking two-hour public lecture on Tuesday, 26th November 2024 titled "Bridging the Gap: Leveraging Self-Motivation for Achieving Institutional Excellence." The event attracted staff, students and stakeholders in education, promoting a shared dialogue on how self-motivation can fuel personal, professional, and institutional success.

In his opening remarks, the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Prof. Mohammed Sani Bello, represented by Prof. Usman Abubakar Zaria, Director-General of the Kaduna State School Quality Assurance Authority underscored the vital role of motivation in achieving excellence, stating that sustained self-motivation empowers individuals and institutions to reach their full potential.

The Vice-Chancellor, Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, delivered an inspiring speech where he emphasized the event's central theme, urging attendees to actively address gaps in personal growth, academic success, and institutional progress. “Success is intentional—it requires planning, focus, and relentless effort,” he stated, encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained from the lecture in practical, impactful ways.

The first presentation, delivered by Prof. Solomon Oduma on behalf of the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Tukur Abdulkadir, explored the transformative power of mindset. He highlighted the importance of positive self-talk, daily reflection, and a growth-oriented attitude in overcoming challenges and fostering resilience.

The Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Research Culture, Prof. Hauwa E. Yusuf delved into the significance of purpose and goal-setting. She emphasized that a clear sense of purpose drives innovation and enables individuals to navigate obstacles effectively. “Nothing good comes easy,” she reminded attendees, urging them to align their goals with their aspirations.

The third speaker, Prof. John Laah tackled the detrimental effects of procrastination. Highlighting its impact on performance, stress levels, and emotional well-being. He advocated for self-discipline as an antidote. “Procrastination is counterproductive,” he stressed, urging participants to practice time management and self-control.

The final presentation, led by Dr. James Chibueze Igwe, explored self-motivation as a catalyst for unlocking potential. He discussed barriers to motivation, including lack of recognition and unrealistic expectations, offering actionable strategies such as mentorship, time management, and personal development to overcome these challenges.

Dr. Sani Aminu, representing the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed posed a reflective question to the audience: “What is our purpose and where are we headed?” His address centered on self-awareness and focus as cornerstones for achieving personal and collective goals.

The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Patience Takao was represented by Mr. Shedwa Reuben Kakaki, while the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alh. Sadiq Mamman Lagos was represented by the Director, Inspectorate, Hajiya Maimuna Safiyanu.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Director, Research and Development, Prof. Ben A. Chindo. Attendees left inspired, armed with practical insights into the role of self-motivation in driving personal growth and institutional excellence.
