The Interfaith Forum for Muslim and Christian Women Association, Kaduna Chapter, also known as the Women's Interfaith Council (WIC) visited the office of the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University on Thursday, 28th March 2024.
Reverend Sister Veronica Onyeanisi, the head of the delegation, explained that their main objective was to request the establishment of a place of worship for the Christian community within the university, emphasizing the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence and religious freedom both within and outside the university community.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa welcomed the delegation and affirmed the university's commitment to religious freedom. He addressed concerns about misinformation circulating and clarified that the university supports all religions, providing spaces for worship regardless of faith. He also mentioned that the university had already allocated a portion of land for the Christian community to build a place of worship while ensuring existing avenues for worship within the university are maintained.
The association expressed appreciation for the management's response and encouraged staff and students to avoid spreading harmful misinformation. The meeting concluded satisfactorily with mutual understanding and cooperation.
Also in attendance were the DVC Academic, Prof. Yusha'u Ibrahim Ango, DVC Administration, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, DVC Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, Prof Helen Afang Andow, the university's Registrar, Barr. Samira Balarabe.
