Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics marks Hausa Lecture Day

Toward fostering economic, social and technological development, Kaduna State University vows to promote Hausa Language. 

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, stated this while speaking during a special lecture organized by the Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics on Tuesday, 19th September 2023, as part of activities marking this year’s students’ week.

Prof. Musa maintained that advanced countries the world over promote their indigenous languages, literature and cultures to facilitate their speedy development. He challenged specialists and professionals to collaborate to patronise Hausa which is an internally recognized language. 

The VC said the University is taking measures to digitalise the Hausa language, literature and culture being studied in the Department. 
To this, he said, the University is to rehabilitate the Language laboratory and the Oral Documentation Unit.

As part of the series of events marking the Students’ Week, a lecture was presented by a renowned scholar, Prof. Ahmadu Bello Zaria on the topic: 'The role of language for the sustenance of peace and economic development.'

Other activities included Hausa drama, bori and musical performances, display of Hausa indigenous food as well as durbar.

The Provost of the College of Humanities, Law and Education, Prof. Ahmed Kofa Babajo, was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Audee T. Giwa who took the opportunity to take the VC and Management members on a tour of the Faculty of Arts. 

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Principal Officers and some Management Committee Members of the University.
