KASU Hosts International Conference: Explores Future of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education in Africa

The Faculty of Arts in the College of Humanities, Education and Law at Kaduna State University held its 3rd International Conference with the theme "The Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education in Africa: Challenges and Prospects in Changing Contexts," on Monday, 8th July 2024, marking a pivotal moment for academia across the continent. 

The conference gathered renowned scholars, educators, and policymakers to discuss critical issues and innovations shaping the African educational and social landscape.

Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Vice-Chancellor of KASU, delivered an insightful address, stressing the importance of collaborative effort among scholars during the conference in proferring solutions to societal progress. 

In his address, Prof. Musa highlighted the role of critical thinking and interdisciplinary approaches in advancing knowledge and addressing contemporary challenges. The Vice Chancellor also stated that the Humanities is the mother of all disciples and it's relevance cannot be overstated.

Prof. A.K. Babajo, the Provost, College of Humanities, Education and Law in his remarks also underscored the enduring relevance of the Humanities and Social Sciences in fostering human development, and stressed the interconnectedness of knowledge and disciplines in academia.

In his opening address Prof. Audee T. Giwa, Dean of the Faculty of Arts encouraged participants to apply newfound insights to their professional domains. He equally noted that the intellectual contribution of the disciplines in Humanities, Social Sciences and  Education are focused on man and society in Nigeria and Africa and added that it has impacted positively in the face of challenges.

Highlights included the keynote lecture by Prof. Tanimu Abubakar of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, whose lecture was titled "The Humanities and Social Sciences at the Intersections of the Modernization Process and National Development in the Third World."

The conference culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony, where Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa and Prof. Tanimu Abubakar were recognized for excellence in academic leadership, innovation and institutional development. 

Reflecting on the conference's impact, participants expressed optimism about the future of African scholarship, noting the conference's role in fostering robust intellectual exchange and charting pathways for sustainable development in the humanities, social sciences, and education sectors.

The 3rd International Conference at KASU thus concluded on a high note, heralding a new chapter in Africa's academic journey and reinforcing the position of Kaduna State University as a vibrant hub for scholarly engagement and innovation.

Usman Tabari, Dean's, Professors, Participants, Staff and Students of KASU.
