KASU Celebrates Milestone in Higher Education Development

On a momentous occasion at the Kaduna State University, Prof. Muhammad Muftahu delivered the 12th Professorial Inaugural Lecture on Tuesday, 14th November 2023, marking a significant step towards institutionalising higher education as both a field of study and professional practice.

The theme of the lecture, "Institutionalising Higher Education as a Field of Study and Professional Practice," resonated within the 1000-seater auditorium at the main campus. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, welcomed a diverse audience, including staff, students, friends, and relatives, emphasizing the lecture's scholarly importance within the Nigerian context.

Prof. Muftahu, a seasoned academic with international exposure in Malaysia, Australia, and the United States, explained the dynamic and multi-dimensional nature of higher education. He articulated its role in addressing societal issues, fostering knowledge development, and propelling economic growth. The lecture cut across topics encompassing students' learning and development, teaching and research, governance and administration, and the broader impact of higher education on society.

Tracing the roots of Nigeria's higher education to colonial times, Prof. Muftahu underscored its pivotal role in enhancing the education system, bolstering the economy, and increasing political influence.

The event witnessed the presence of key figures, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Yusha'u Ango, Registrar, Samira Balarabe, Esq,  University Librarian, Dr. Babangida Umar Dangani, Senate members, academic and non-teaching staff, students, and well-wishers.

In a groundbreaking move, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa announced the establishment of a committee to introduce higher education as a formal course of study at KASU, marking a pioneering initiative in the country. Simultaneously, another committee was formed to elevate higher education as a cadre within the university system through collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, Kaduna State Government, and other stakeholders. Prof. Muhammad Muftahu, the distinguished speaker, will serve as the chairman of both committees, solidifying his commitment to advancing higher education in Nigeria.

This development sets a precedent for KASU and the Nigerian higher education landscape, reflecting a proactive approach towards academic excellence and societal impact. The commitment to fostering collaboration with governmental bodies and stakeholders signifies a holistic effort to shape the future of higher education in the region.
