University Officials Prepare for UN Climate Conference at Nigeria's Negotiator's Training

Kaduna State University's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, along with the Deputy Provost of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Hosea Mande Kato, and the Acting Director of University Advancement, Mallam Usman Tabari, recently participated in a two-day training simulation aimed at enhancing Nigeria's representation at the upcoming UNFCCC-COP28 Conference.

The training, hosted by the National Council on Climate Change in collaboration with the British High Commission, took place on Tuesday, 31st October 2023 at the Exclusive Serene Hotel, Wuye in Abuja. The event sought to equip participants with essential negotiation skills and a comprehensive understanding of critical climate issues in preparation for the global climate summit.

Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, expressing the university's commitment to climate action, emphasized the significance of this preparatory session in amplifying Nigeria's voice and contributions at the international conference. He highlighted the importance of academic institutions in addressing environmental challenges and the necessity of multidisciplinary approaches in tackling climate change.

The 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is scheduled to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from 30th November to 12th December 2023. UNFCCC-COP28 is anticipated to convene global leaders, policymakers, and climate experts to discuss and formulate strategies to combat climate change. Nigeria's representation, fortified by the insightful preparation and dedication of the university officials, aims to advocate for impactful policies and solutions on the international stage.

KASU to explore collaborative opportunities for Digital and Creative Innovation with CIIFA

In furtherance of Management's strategic objective of blending skills with certificates, a collaborative meeting was held with the Creative Industries Initiative for Africa (CIIFA) Engage Nigeria Initiative. 

The meeting which took place on Monday, 25th September 2023 bordered the area of digital excellence and creative innovation. 

The Kaduna Project Manager for CIIFA's Engage Nigeria Initiative, Didam Duniya explained that they empower citizens in creative fields with the belief that the future belongs to innovators, hence the need to foster digital excellence and creativity in Kaduna. 

'We at CIIFA have a keen interest in partnering with Kaduna State University through the Engage Nigeria Initiative to cultivate a thriving creative ecosystem in the region and collaborating with KASU would be invaluable. 

'The Engage Nigeria Initiative forms the creative arm of the Skill Sprint Project supported by Google.org. It aims to equip participants with cutting-edge creative skills that will drive personal growth and contribute to economic development. 

'Our comprehensive training programmes encompass various creative disciplines, including music business, music production, animation, graphic design, cinematography, and videography,' he said. 

The Project Manager said that it is an opportunity for students at KASU to gain hands-on experience in the evolving digital world. 

He added that KASU's commitment to the growth of its students will provide an ideal setting for fostering creativity, innovation and learning.

KASU and Swansea University to partner in research, capacity building and entrepreneurship

On Monday, 9th October 2023, the Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, held a meeting with representatives from Swansea University, United Kingdom, alongside the Director of Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre, KASU, Prof. Seth Akutson.  

The meeting was aimed at striking a partnership between the aforementioned universities in areas of research, capacity building and entrepreneurship development. The outcome of the meeting showed the willingness of both universities to synergise with each other in bringing fruitful results that will benefit students and the immediate community in the area of Digital entrepreneurial startups through the support of an Entrepreneurial Culture developed by both Kaduna State University and Swansea University.  

Swansea University being a 4 time nominee for the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year Award, looks forward to enhancing efforts in entrepreneurship education made by Kaduna State University.

VC-KASU received the Chairman MACA Peace Ambassadors.

The Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023, received the Chairman MACA Peace Ambassadors and Unity Affairs in Africa/ CEO Gafiligadoki Communication, 
Amb. Nyam Terkimbi Terry as he paid a courtesy visit alongside the winners of Face of MACA NATION and  Miss Arewa Culture. 

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Nyam Terkimbi for the successful hosting of the Arewa Heroes and Philanthropic Award of Excellence 2023, as he received Arewa Pride/ MACA PEACE AMBASSADOR 2023 for his good work in KASU. 

Receiving the award from the founder of MACA NATION, he assured him of the university's support and looks forward to the partnership with G-Films Academy/GGTV. 

Nyam Terry was joined by Queen Fatimah Abike Abdulrahaman Winner Face of MACA NATION 2023/24  and Queen Alexander Ayuba, winner of Miss Arewa Culture 2023/24.
